It was supposed to be a quieter March in Washington this year as new coach Mike Shanahan and new general manager Bruce Allen began rebuilding the mess that was the 2009 Redskins.
Instead, less than two weeks into free agency, Shanahan and Allen had signed five free agents, two more than the rest of the NFC East combined.
"I'm very satisfied," Shanahan said even before the Redskins added running back Larry Johnson and quarterback Rex Grossman. "We've got a game plan and it takes time. We've got a plan, and it's not going to happen overnight. You just have to watch the plan take place. We're going to try to do the little things the right way, and hopefully we'll get it done." Albert Haynesworth has likely become Maake Kemoeatu's biggest fan. That's because if Kemoeatu, who signed with Washington on March 10, can recover from the torn Achilles' tendon that ended his 2009 season with Carolina in training camp, Haynesworth can focus on the playmaking defensive end spot instead of the self-sacrificing nose tackle role in Washington's 3-4 defense being established by new coordinator Jim Haslett. Haynesworth isn't one to be unselfish, but Kemoeatu is happy to do just that. The 31-year-old Hawaiian broke into the NFL with Baltimore in 2002 as a rookie free agent from Utah. A backup during his first three seasons in Baltimore's 3-4 scheme, Kemoeatu became a starter in 2005 and made a career-high 70 tackles for a Ravens defense that...
