The Tennessee Titans finally etched their names into the free agent signing column, striking a three-year, $11 million with linebacker Will Witherspoon.

Witherspoon joins his third team in less than a calendar year after being traded by the St. Louis Rams to the Philadelphia Eagles in midseason last year.

When the Eagles released him last week, rather than pay Witherspoon a $5 million base salary for 2010, the Titans pounced.

Witherspoon's signing will help bolster a linebacker corps that had become amazingly thin on the outside with Keith Bulluck not only an unrestricted free agent, but also rehabbing from a torn ACL suffered in December. The Tennessee Titans are sliding quietly into free agency. With a handful of veterans hitting the market at 12:01 a.m. Friday, the Titans' biggest move in the hours before the start of free agency was agreeing to terms with their long snapper, Ken Amato. They also offered tenders to six restricted free agents, including defensive tackle Tony Brown and tight end Bo Scaife.

The Tennessee Titans have re-signed veteran safety and special teams player Donnie Nickey to a one-year contract, his agent said Tuesday. Nickey, a fifth-round pick from Ohio State in 2003, will be entering his eighth professional season, all with the Titans. Last season, he had 12 tackles in a backup role and was the Titans special teams captain.

The Tennessee Titans agreed to terms with veteran guard Eugene Amano on a multiyear contract, the team announced Wednesday. Keeping Amano is a key piece to maintaining the Titans' offensive line -- considered one of the best in the NFL. The Titans still must sign veteran center Kevin Mawae to keep the line together.
