In this Sept. 1, 2007, file photo, Arkansas running back Darren McFadden watches the final moments of the football game against Troy in Fayetteville, Ark. McFadden is expected to be one of the top players taken in the NFL draft Saturday, April 26, 2008.

Ella McFadden woke up a little after six in the morning, too nervous to sleep any longer. The big day was finally here. Of course, the NFL draft wasn't going to start for another nine hours or so, Manhattan was sleeping outside her window, and nothing could make that hour hand spin any faster. What's an anxious stepmom to do?

Raiders Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)

Wednesday, 07 May 2008

A year later, the Raiders' draft was still all about quarterback JaMarcus Russell.

The Raiders opted to bypass LSU defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey in part because they consider him a "three-technique" defensive tackle and have already decided that returnee Tommy Kelly will fill that role, paying him $18.125 million in guaranteed money.

Dorsey could affect Russell's game peripherally by helping get the ball back to the offense, but not directly.

Not so with Arkansas running back Darren McFadden, whose presence gives Russell an important weapon heading into the quarterback's first season as the starter of an NFL team.

"I think it's going to affect JaMarcus a lot," coach Lane Kiffin said.

Wednesday, 07 May 2008
The Oakland Raiders signed free-agent linebacker Edgerton Hartwell, hoping he can revive a career beset by injuries in recent seasons. The 30-year-old Hartwell played only 13 games in 2005 and '06 with Atlanta because of injuries to his knee and Achilles' tendon. He was cut by Cincinnati before the start of last season and sat out the entire year.
