The trade of linebacker Jonathan Vilma to the Saints and the so-far unsuccessful attempts to deal nose tackle Dewayne Robertson in this offseason demonstrate that the Jets are actively trying to make their defensive personnel fit better with their 3-4 scheme, so any defensive selections they make should reflect that philosophy.
They traded up twice in the draft last year to select first-rounder Darrelle Revis at cornerback and second-rounder David Harris at linebacker, and lost two picks in the process. They've already traded their third- and fifth-round selections this year to Carolina in the Kris Jenkins deal, so could be looking to trade down and get more picks.
