Caleb Campbell was the Lions' last draft pick, a seventh-rounder, 218th overall. But he has gotten the most attention. He has been featured on ESPN and CNN. He was interviewed often at Radio City Music Hall during the draft, and his selection was the first shown live in hours on the weekend-long TV coverage.
That's because he is Army's first draft pick since 1997, when Green Bay took quarterback Ronnie McAda with the last pick of the draft (240th overall) and made him Mr. Irrelevant.
Campbell is taking advantage of a new Army policy allowing athletes who sign pro contracts to pursue a career. He will be on active duty as a recruiter while with the Lions, trying to make it as an outside linebacker or safety. After two years, if he's still in the NFL, he will have the...
