Detroit Lions safety Kalvin Pearson was arrested Saturday in southwest Florida on domestic violence charges. Pearson was charged with aggravated battery on a pregnant woman and domestic battery by strangulation, both felonies, according to an arrest report from the Hillsborough County sheriff's office.

Caleb Campbell was the Lions' last draft pick, a seventh-rounder, 218th overall. But he has gotten the most attention. He has been featured on ESPN and CNN. He was interviewed often at Radio City Music Hall during the draft, and his selection was the first shown live in hours on the weekend-long TV coverage.

That's because he is Army's first draft pick since 1997, when Green Bay took quarterback Ronnie McAda with the last pick of the draft (240th overall) and made him Mr. Irrelevant.

Campbell is taking advantage of a new Army policy allowing athletes who sign pro contracts to pursue a career. He will be on active duty as a recruiter while with the Lions, trying to make it as an outside linebacker or safety.

The Detroit Lions signed free agent running back Artose Pinner to a one-year deal Thursday, reacquiring a player they drafted in 2003. The 5-foot-10, 232-pound Pinner rejoins the Lions entering his sixth NFL season. Pinner was picked by Detroit in the fourth round, and played for the Lions through the 2005 season.
