Jerry Jones promised that he would not stand pat in the offseason. He said his players should not get comfortable. He said they should be nervous as their will be changes. So far Jones' words have rung hollow in free agency.

The Cowboys have made nary a move. They haven't signed anyone. They haven't lost anyone. They've done nothing.

But don't fret. It's been mostly by design. The Cowboys entered free agency looking to pick their spots rather than be the aggressor. It's a philosophy they have used for the past couple of years.

It's not about Jones being frugal but rather him choosing to spend the bulk of his money on his own free agents. All of the team's frontline stars are locked up on long-term contracts, including Tony Romo, DeMarcus Ware, Terence Newman, Jay Ratliff,...

Don't be alarmed Cowboys fans. Jerry Jones has not fallen asleep at the wheel.

Just because the Cowboys have done nothing in free agency doesn't mean there is a reason to panic.

Remember, sometimes perception is not reality. That's certainly the case with Jones of late. Jones has the reputation of an owner who throws his money around, but it's usually with his own players and certainly not at the start of free agency.

The Cowboys haven't been active in the first week of free agency since 2007 when they signed Leonard Davis from Cardinals.

They didn't make big splashes in either of the past two years.

So what the Cowboys are doing this year goes along with their recent philosophy.
